FAQ

The whitening gel is placed into your custom fitted retainer, once inserted over your teeth the active ingredient in the gel starts to break down. Oxygen enters into the enamel and dentin which in turn breaks down the stain inside the tooth. The structure of the tooth is not changed, only the colour is made lighter.
The active ingredient is high quality 18% carbamide peroxide – the same used by dentists and the highest legal grade in Australia.

All whitening gel causes some degree of tooth sensitivity. This is discomfort due to hot and cold fluids, and sometimes even air. This is normal and an expected side effect. If your teeth do become sensitive, try completing the treatment every second day or reduce duration. Sensitivity should disappear completely within 1-3 days after completing the treatment. This will still achieve the desired results, it will just take a little longer. Gum irritation can also occur, especially if you overfill your mouth tray. You will notice that your gum will become white, however, this will disappear shortly after you stop your treatment. You can also place vitamin E oil on the affected area to reduce irritation.
Either your mouth trays are covering the gum area or you filled your mouth tray with too much gel. Simply reduce the amount of whitening gel in your mouth tray. The gums will return to normal in a few hours. You should avoid any further treatment until your gums are fully healed and avoid any hot foods until then. Next time use less whitening gel and only wear the retainer for half the recommended time.
